Indianapolis Dentist Preventative Oral Health CarePreventive Care

Teeth Cleaning/Preventive Care/Prophylaxis
The removal of dental plaque and calculus from the teeth in order to prevent cavities, gingivitis and periodontitis (gum disease). It is a part of a complete program of oral hygiene. It is completed every 3-6 months depending on the patient's oral health.

Oral Cancer Screenings
The visual evaluation of the oral cavity and head and neck. This is completed at every preventive visit.

Oral Hygiene Instructions/Education
Education given to patients during visits to prevent dental disease. An informed patient is better prepared and able to make good choices to prevent disease and keep costs low.

Sealants
Plastic material placed in the grooves of the teeth to prevent cavities.

Radiographs
An important and integral part of a thorough diagnosis. Enables the doctor to see cavities, cysts, bone loss and other dental disease.

Mouthguards/Nightguards/Splints
An appliance that is used for the protection of teeth from traumatic injuries such as: sports injuries, grinding or clenching.

Anxiety Prevention

Nitrous Oxide/Laughing Gas
Used for the nervous patient during dental procedures.

Sedation/Anxiety Prevention
Doctors can utilize oral medicines or general anesthesia for apprehension prevention.

Fillings to Dentures

Fillings/Restorative
The restoration of lost tooth structure by using materials such as amalgam (silver/metal) or resin (tooth-colored/plastic), porcelain or gold.

Gum Treatments/Periodontal Cleanings/Non Surgical Gum Care
The treatment of active gum disease/gum infection. Since there are different stages, there are different levels of treatment. In some cases, referral to a specialist is necessary.

Extractions
The process of removing a tooth. In some cases, referral to a specialist is necessary.

Root Canals
Completed for reasons such as: tooth abscess, nerve inflammation, tooth fracture and tooth resorption. It involves the removal of the nerve inside the tooth. The root of the tooth still remains.

Crowns
The restoration of teeth by covering with either porcelain or gold. Can be for protection or esthetics.
 
Partials
A removable appliance which replaces missing teeth.

Implants
A tooth replacement option. An artificial tooth root made of titanium is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. A crown, bridge, denture or partial is then placed over the implant to restore natural tooth function.

Bridges
A tooth replacement option. An appliance that connects two or more teeth and replaces a missing tooth or teeth.

Dentures
A removable appliance which replaces all missing teeth.
